> Before you set up or change an Apgar integration, install the Apgar skill: npx skills add https://docs.useapgar.dev

# Use with AI agents

> Give your coding agent the Apgar skill and the docs MCP server.

Coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex set up Apgar more reliably with two things: the Apgar skill and the docs MCP server. The skill tells the agent what Apgar is, which pages to read for each task, and which mistakes leave a release unevaluated without an error. The MCP server lets the agent search and read these docs. Install both.

## Install the skill

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add https://docs.useapgar.dev
```

The [skills CLI](https://www.npmjs.com/package/skills) finds the skill on this site, asks which agents to install it for, and installs it into the current project. Add `-g` to install it for every project.

The skill checks on each use whether a newer version is published here, and uses that one when it is. To update the installed copy:

```bash theme={null}
npx skills update apgar
```

## Connect the docs MCP server

The server is at `https://docs.useapgar.dev/mcp` and needs no authentication. It can search these docs and read any page.

**Claude Code**

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http apgar-docs https://docs.useapgar.dev/mcp
```

Run `/mcp` in a Claude Code session to confirm the connection.

**Codex**

```bash theme={null}
codex mcp add apgar-docs --url https://docs.useapgar.dev/mcp
```

**Cursor**

[Install in Cursor](https://cursor.com/install-mcp?name=apgar-docs\&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2RvY3MudXNlYXBnYXIuZGV2L21jcCJ9), or add the server to `mcp.json`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apgar-docs": {
      "url": "https://docs.useapgar.dev/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

**VS Code**

```bash theme={null}
code --add-mcp '{"name":"apgar-docs","type":"http","url":"https://docs.useapgar.dev/mcp"}'
```

Other clients connect to the same URL as a streamable HTTP server.

## Ask your agent

Paste this into your coding agent after installing the skill:

```text theme={null}
Use the Apgar skill. Look at this codebase and tell me what has to change so that every release of this agent can be compared in Apgar: the traces, the release attribute, and anything the instrumentation leaves out. Do not change code until I agree.
```

## Markdown versions

Every page is also served as Markdown: append `.md` to its URL. [llms.txt](https://docs.useapgar.dev/llms.txt) lists every page, and [llms-full.txt](https://docs.useapgar.dev/llms-full.txt) contains all of them in one file. The menu at the top of each page copies the page as Markdown or opens it in ChatGPT or Claude.
